One Mile to Start the Greater Greenway
After years of planning and about a year of construction, Brookhaven is finally enjoying its first taste of the new Peachtree Creek Greenway. As of December 2019, the “Model Mile” is officially open here in town, showcasing a short sample of what the bigger vision will become.
This current portion stretches from Briarwood Road to Druid Hills Road, and crosses the creek between Corporate Square to the south and Jackson Square Condominiums to the north. It’s just part of what will eventually be about a three-mile stretch through Brookhaven.
The greenway is available for walking, jogging, cycling and any other non-motorized vehicles – providing a convenient, scenic means for exercise and eco-friendly commuting. For maximized safety, there’s lighting all along the trail, right down to the LED handrails on the state-of-the-art footbridge that crosses the creek. And while the project is all about moving forward (both literally and figuratively) the path will ultimately include several green spaces along the way where you can play, picnic or just relax with a good book.
In all, the full North Fork Peachtree Creek Trail is expected to extend further than 12 miles – connecting the Beltline to Brookhaven, including Chamblee, DeKalb County and Doraville. The big vision is to foster a greater sense of connectivity among all the various communities along the way, with improved access to work, shopping and entertainment.
