Providing a true breath of fresh air, these green getaways offer ideal places to get active or simply unwind in nature.
None is so impressive as Murphey Candler Park – the largest in the metro area. This 135-acre expanse sits at the center of its namesake neighborhood. And at the center of the park is a peaceful lake that’s home to wildlife such as Canada Geese, ducks and beavers, along with numerous species of fish. Outdoor recreation options surrounding the lake range from great hiking, jogging or walking trails, playgrounds and picnic areas.
The park also offers plenty of opportunities for sports, including football fields, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and an expansive complex for baseball and softball. With numerous leagues coming here to compete, Brookhaven’s blend of community and fun outdoor enrichment is on full display.
Surrounding the park, the residential areas of the neighborhood are filled with classic homes. Most houses here were built starting in 1954 through around 1970. The majority of them were created by the same builder, lending the area a subtle sense of commonality.
When you want to get away for a while yet still feel conveniently close to everything, you need not wander any further than Murphey Candler. Once you’re here, you’ll wonder why you don’t come more often.
