Bird Walk Field Trip at Murphey Candler Park
Birding Focus: Several habitats (lake, wetlands, mixed woods, and ball fields) provide good species diversity.
Peak Spring warbler season for Murphey Candler is usually mid-April to mid-May. We'll look for colorful migrants, as we only see for a few weeks each!
This walk is suitable for adults and children over 14 years of age. Please do not bring your dog.
This site can be especially good for beginning birders. Some of the trails are level, but there are several steep spots and a few stretches where the surface is uneven from exposed tree roots, etc. Many parts of the trail are muddy and/or slippery after rains; plan your footwear accordingly. Restrooms are available at the SE and SW corners of the park, near the baseball fields.
Directions and parking: From I-285 on the north side of Atlanta, take Exit 29. Go south on Ashford Dunwoody Rd. about 0.95 mile, then turn left onto W. Nancy Creek Dr. NE. Drive to 1st large parking on SW corner of lake - 1636 West Nancy Creek Dr (approximate address - corner of Candler Lake West NE and West Nancy Creek Dr NE)
Free to attend, but must register in advance
